Our History

RF&G Life Insurance Company Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of G. A. Roe & Sons Ltd and a member of The Roe Group of Companies, one of the largest and most successful groups of companies in Belize. The core business of RF&G Life Insurance is the provision of insurance coverage for Life and Medical Insurance.

The birth of the Roe Group of Companies was marked by the purchase of an insurance agency, Horncastle (British Honduras) Ltd., from the H. Melhado Company by Mr. Gordon A. Roe, in 1963. A few years later, in 1970, G. A. Roe & Sons Ltd. established an insurance company called Fire and General Assurance Company of Belize Ltd. To carry on the operations of the agency business, G.A. Roe & Sons (Insurance Services) Ltd. was established in 1975. In 2001, G. A. Roe & Sons (Insurance Services) Ltd. was renamed F&G Insurance Agencies Ltd.

The genesis of RF&G Life Insurance Company Limited came in 2005 with the purchase of the Regent Life Insurance book of business by G. A. Roe & Sons and along with the agency’s life and medical insurance line of business. RF&G Life Insurance has since grown with the acquisition of the Belize portfolio of CLICO in 2009 and of the Belize book of life insurance business of Guardian Life and ALICO in 2015.

Our Team

Jerome Palma


Managing Director

Since joining RF&G Life in July 2010, Jerome has served in integral positions of our operations. He has served as the Company’s Actuarial Analyst, Actuarial Manager, and General Manager. As of October 2020, he is the Managing Director of the Company. Jerome oversees all business operations, people, and ventures of the Company and has direct overview of the day to day activities of all areas. He is responsible for carrying out the strategic plan in keeping with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of the Company. Jerome holds a Master of Science in Actuarial Science with distinction from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, United Kingdom. He is an Associate Actuary of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and the Caribbean Actuarial Association.

Majiba Acuna


Financial Controller

Mejiba heads up the accounting department with a combined 20 years of experience in accounting and auditing in the insurance industry.

She directly oversees the preparation of the company’s financial reports, guides financial decisions, establishes, monitors and enforces accounting policies and procedures within the department. Mejiba is also responsible for ensuring that all accounting allocations are appropriately made and documented.

Giovanni Leslie Gomez


Compliance Officer

With over twenty years of business experience, Giovanni heads up the Compliance Program in which capacity she manages the organization’s activities and its compliance with all policies, procedures and government regulations – domestically as well as globally, where applicable.

Giovanni holds a degree in Business from the University of Belize, an AML Designation as a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (CAMS) along with Certification in Risk Assessment from the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists. She has also earned a Certification in Risk Management and Insurance from the University of the West Indies.

Jennifer Cal


Manager, Policy Services

Jennifer leads our Policy Services and Systems Operations teams working along with our software developers and programmers to ensure our Insurance Systems provide technological solutions with an integrated approach to policy administration.

She possess over 15 years of Insurance Industry experience in several areas that has allowed her to develop in her career. Astute in the employment of her public relations and marketing skills and in maintaining good customer relations, she is always ready to serve. Jennifer is trained in evaluating and analyzing risk and is a Certified Underwriter. She has earned the Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and Associates Customer Service designations (ACS) which are substantial steps in the insurance industry and essential to the Company.

Gladys Kuylen


Senior Underwriter

Gladys is a Certified Underwriter and brings over 17 years of insurance industry experience in several areas that has allowed her to develop into her career. She has also attained an Associate in Insurance Agency Administration, Certification in Reinsurance Administration and Insurance Regulatory Compliance along with Professional Customer Service. Gladys has attained the Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) designation, an internationally recognized insurance designation.

With over twenty years’ experience in management, Mrs. Lenna Williams oversees the claims management and governance ,to ensure claims are processed in a timely manner, in compliance with regulatory, legal and fiduciary responsibilities set out by the company.

Denise Longsworth


Business Development Manager

Denise leads our Insurance Advisors in growing our portfolio while providing excellent customer service to our esteemed clients. Working in sales in the financial sector since 1995, both as a Financial Sales Solution Advisor and Manager of a sales team, she administers the sales and conservation activities with her team and oversees the Company’s marketing initiatives. Complimenting her years of experience, sales and leadership training, Denise possesses a degree in Business from St. John Junior College.

Magdalene Okondo

Magdalene is an Insurance Advisor specializing in both Group and Individual business. She has over 19 years of experience within the industry, including 8 years as Unit Manager in charge of 8 to 10 agents. Magdalene obtained her advance level education at Midwest College, where she earned several accomplishments and awards and has taken several successful courses both as agent and on managerial level. Skills and knowledge acquired over the years has been the backbone of her success in her career. She is a single mother with one daughter. Her hobbies include traveling and listening to music.


Maria Coyi, born in Trinidad & Tobago was educated at UWI, then earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of North Florida, U.S.A.  Mrs. Coyi served as Vice-Principal of St. Catherine Academy and later became the Headmaster of S.J.C. in 2007, becoming the first female to hold that position.  A Past President of the Rotary Club of Belize, her experience spans Banking positions both at Scotiabank in Trinidad & Belize, to Senior Supervisor, Currency Dept. at Central Bank of Belize, and having retired, now an Insurance Advisor with RF&G Life (formally with Guardian Life).

Over the past two decades Maria has worked as an insurance agent for several companies. As a self-employed business woman, she has engaged in different businesses which have enriched her work ethics and knowledge. Her interest in her clients’ financial well -being led her to participate in several designation courses which will eventually accredit her as a Financial Advisor. Her hard work has been frequently acknowledged by the different companies she has represented. As an insurance advisor, her clients have always given an excellent recommendation on her behalf.

Marsha Samuels-White has a passion for finding solutions to match her customer’s individual needs.  She graduated with an Associate’s Degree from St. John’s Junior College after which she worked as a dedicated Public Servant for 15 years. Determined to make a difference, she transitioned to working with the United Nations and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Amongst her experiences she gained knowledge and skills as a Sales Consultant. Her goal is to foster and build strong positive relationships with her customers, ensure customer’s stability and to add to RF&G Life’s positive reputation. She commits to continued assistance with the development of our customer’s by contributing her years of fruitful experience, and delivering efficient and effective service.


Mayeli holds a degree in Hotel & Catering and Business Management. She is also pursuing a degree in Accounting. She enjoys working very closely with her customers and understanding their needs in order to give the best recommendations and financial advice. Mayeli has been one of the top Advisor’s since she entered the insurance business. She has won several prestigious awards in the insurance industry such. As a Sales Leader she qualified and attended the 32nd Annual Sales Congress in Jamaica in April 2018. She’s married and the mother of two children.
